NTLDR Error Messages

“NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart”
This is very often the result of a corrupted BOOT.INI file.

Boot to the XP CD. When it asks you if you want to install or Repair, choose Repair. This will take you to the Recovery console. Choose the XP install to log into, usually there’s only 1, and enter the password when prompted. For Home, the default password is blank. At the C:\Windows prompt type the following commands:

FIXBOOT, answer Yes
CD \
ATTRIB -H NTLDR
ATTRIB -S NTLDR
ATTRIB -R NTLDR
ATTRIB -H NTDETECT.COM
ATTRIB -S NTDETEC.COM
ATTRIB -R NTDETECT.COM
COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
In steps 9 and 10, “X” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.

Automatically end hung processes

To end processes automatically at shutdown -

1. Open Regedit and navigate to HK_Users\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop

2. Double-click on AutoEndTasks

3. Change the value from 0 to 1

4. Reboot your machine

Now hung processes will end automatically when you try to shutdown or reboot your machine.

Restore Recycle Bin icon to the Desktop

To Restore Recycle Bin icon to the Desktop-

Click Start, type Control desk.cpl,,@Web and press Enter
In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog, enable the Recycle Bin checkbox
Click OK

Another way to access the Desktop Icon Settings dialog is to right-click on the Desktop, click Personalize, and in the left pane, click Change desktop icons.

Windows XP Automatic Reboot Problems

There are three basic sources of automatic reboot problems:

1. Recovery settings

2. Software incompatibilities, including driver issues

3. BIOS problems

Disable automatic rebooting:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Click the Advanced tab.

Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Windows XP defaults to Safe Mode at every startup

Windows XP may default to Safe Mode at every startup. This happens if the /safeboot switch is added in the Boot.ini file.

To solve this problem:

Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG
Select the Boot.ini tab
If you have dual-boot setup, select the appropriate entry under [operating systems]
In the Boot Options section at the bottom, uncheck /SAFEBOOT option
Click OK
Restart Windows

The /safeboot entry will now be removed from the Boot.ini file.

Clear Autocomplete in Internet Explore

To Clear Auto in Internet Explorer,

Open IE- click on Tools tab- select Internet Options- select the Content tab and click on Auto Complete, now click on Clear Forms.

Windows message services in XP

Net send is a message services utility in windows XP to instant chat.

Go to Start- Run- type “cmd” enter, now type net send PC name/IP message

Note: In XP start the Messenger services in services.msc

Ending non-responsive tasks in XP

HKEY Current User/Control Panel/Desktop. Now “Autoend tasks” Set the value to = 1

Change the “Wait to Kill App” time, as you required.
